JB and I are coming up on our 7th anniversary. We had the "seven year itch"-so to speak. The itch for a vacation. Just us. No kids. Time to enjoy each other. We planned a trip for Fort Lauderdale and Key West. It was wonderful! We rested, swam, snorkled, read, laughed, toured, ate and ate, walked-a LOT and really enjoyed every minute. Below are a few photos from our trip.
JB in the airport.
Layover in Atlanta. Cheers!
JB and the Focus. I don't think he's ready to trade the F150 in for this bad-boy just yet, but it did have Satellite radio which was a treat! Mitch Hedburg on the comedy channel is one FUNNY man!
First stop-Fort Lauderdale. The Westin. Thank you Travelocity for a dreamy (yet affordable) hotel! I see how "the other side" vacations and I like it!
We liked the Rustic Inn Crab House so much we ate there on the way down AND on the way back. (I got butter ALL over my dress in a crab feeding-frenzy...The "World Famous Garlic Butter" does NOT come out.)
Off to Key West. Key deer sighting. Not many people spot them, but we I was on a mission to ride around 'till we spotted one of these little devils!
The sunsets on Key West are beautiful. Four nights. Four sunsets. Mallory Square-Sunset #1 (See the sun in our glasses. This is one of my favorite photos!)
Smathers Beach. We felt like we were in a Corona ad.
Southernmost Sally
Roof of the La Concha Hotel-Sunset #2
Hemmingway House
We dined well. I had a list of recommendations from various magazine articles and Fred, owner of the place we stayed, gave us a list of his local favorites. This was on both lists. Hogfish Bar and Grill. YUM!
Signs like this would be everywhere if I worked for the DOT. This is my kind of sign.
US 1-Sunset #3.
These trees were blooming EVERYWHERE. The Royal Poinciana Tree. Sorta like our Mimosa tree, but brighter. They were absolutely beautiful.
St. Paul's-There is a $1M insurance policy on their beautiful stained glass windows...not to be missed.
Celebrity sighting-Coach Mike Leach
Fort Zachary State Park-Sunset #4 (Saved the best for last. It was hands down best sunset location.)
I looked for my sign all week. I found it the last night in Key West at Green Parrot Bar.
We really enjoyed Papa's Hideaway-Fred and Andrea were great!
The lighthouse and more of those beautiful trees.
Baby's Coffee for a pick-me-up on the ride back (another Fred suggestion).
This view from Highway One is a LITTLE different than my daily view from Highway One!
We enjoyed our trip and soaked in the much needed R&R, but as we always say "It's fun to travel, but it feels great to be back home".
